Being basically 4 seats slung under an engine wasps spent a great deal of the time being "driven" around the sky by the controller in the ship's operations room. Wasps were notoriously bad radar targets so the transponder (the can shaped object under the aircraft) was an essential bit of kit. We used to practise Vectacs (Vectored attacks against a submarine), Didtacs (controlled strikes against small surface ships using the AS12 missile)as well as talk downs (Operational Approaches) and Poor Visibility Approaches (PVAs)to the ships flight deck.
