The new control tower and runway 16R / 34L. Jorge Chavez is operated by Lima Airport Partners LAP since 2001. LAP is largely owned by Frankfurt-based Fraport AG, with an operations license for 30 years. The need to expedite completion of the additional runway was sadly highlighted on November 18, 2022, when LATAM's CC-BHB collided with a fire truck that accidentally entered runway 16L. Traffic nationwide had to shut down.
