D-8659 after winch takeoff and left turn during airport festival 2004 I had a wonderful view back to the airport. Only gliders are allowed on the airport, but every year some small turbo props are visiting Hilden at the festival. In the picture one glider is being prepared for the next winch takeoff. It crashed a few minutes later while approaching because of a strong wind gust at the tree level altitude. 2 people injured. The airport of Hilden Kesselsweier was closed on 31/12/2008. The reason: Surrounding trees are too high now so the landing strip has no longer an accepteble length for glider operations. (more of D-8659)
