OO-MAF This appears to be the first picture of this aircraft under this registration on this photo database. The airframe of this aircraft was built as a Messchersmitt Me 109G and supplied by Germany to the Spanish Franco regime during the second world war. The Germans did not supply the engines and Spanish were forced to mount the disappointing Hispano-Suiza 12Z 89 engine in the airframes. In 1953 they decided to replace these disappointing engines with a Rolls-Royce Kestrel, the engine of the late model Brittish Spitfires. As a Hispano HA 1112 M1L Buchon this type was active in the Spanish air force until the mid 60’s. This example appears to be based at Brasschaat and under restoration. It has been disguised as a WW2 German Messchersmitt Me 109. The bottom engine cowling was missing at the time this picture was taken.
